Durham County Council’s Armed Forces Service Outreach Service (AFOS) can provide support to all Forces personnel.

Help is available in the areas of Housing, Benefits, Employment, Health and Wellbeing, Care and Support, Family Support, Schools, and Finances.

East Durham Veterans Trust run a number of projects and services with the aim of supporting veterans and their families and the wider community. 


SSAFA’s mission is a society in which the Armed Forces, veterans, and their families can thrive. They offer a wide variety of resources, including a helpline and online live chat.

The Royal British Legion are here to help members of the Armed Forces community and their families, and we are not going anywhere. Our support starts after seven days of service and continuous through life, long after service is over. 

Combat Stress provides clinical treatment and support for veterans from the British Armed Forces, focusing on those with complex mental health issues resulting from their experiences during military service. 

Their support includes a free helpline (phone and text) and an email service.
